LIPIZZANER STALLIONS

The Lipizzaner Stallions are coming to Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky April 27, 2007. Lord willing, I'm planning to go. This will be my first time to see them in person and I'm really looking forward to the opportunity. Check out their website below in My Favorite Links to see their 2007 schedule.

ZODER'S INN, GATLINBURG, TN

This is a view of the footbridge that leads across the Roaring Fork stream to part of the Zoder's Inn complex in Gatlinburg, TN. We stay in the third floor room shown here above the parking garage. Our family has stayed in various sections of the complex since the early 70's. It has grown considerably since we first stayed at Zoder's. It is as much a part of our trip to the Smoky Mountains as the Park itself. The following photos are of our most recent trip to the Smokies from March 25 to March 28, 2007. We went to Ripley's Aquarium, Dixie Stampede and Cades Cove while we were there. We ate breakfast at the Pancake Pantry a few blocks uptown and at Appleby's across the street from Zoder's. My favorite photography studio, Beneath The Smoke, is only a couple of blocks away.

The living room where we stay at Zoder's. I sleep on the couch. It is not too bad. The picture window to the left looks out on a wooded hillside.

A view off our balcony at Zoder's. We are only two blocks from the center of Gatlinburg, but we feel like we are out in the mountains when we stay at Zoder's. The family has been staying here exclusively since the early 1970's.

MEIGS FALLS

This is a beautiful waterfall in the Smoky Mountains National Park. It can be easily seen from the Park road that leads from the visitor center to Cades Cove.

JOHN OLIVER CABIN IN CADES COVE

This cabin is the oldest log home in Cades Cove. It was built in the early 1820's. The cabin is the first historic building you seen when entering Cades Cove. The cove is a beautiful valley located in the Smoky Mountains National Park. There is an 11 mile loop road around the valley where many historic structures have been preserved. Deer and wild turkey can been seen in the early morning hours. Sometimes even a black bear or two will show up. Bicyclists can enjoy the loop, but the traffic can be pretty heavy at times. The valley is about 25 to 30 miles from Gatlinburg, TN.

One of Mom's favorite places in the Smokies is the old Methodist Church in Cades Cove. And she is not of Methodist, but of Christian Church background.

OK, so here is a current photo of myself. Still trying to get back down to my college weight. About 50 pounds to go. Nice background, though.

MIKE NEAR THE GRIST MILL & SMOKEHOUSE

Not a bad photo, especially if you just concentrate on the scenery.

MY FIRST VEHICLE

Can you believe it? I found my first mode of transportation before my '95 Grand Am. It was parked outside a shed in the Cable Mill area of Cades Cove. A few new tires and it should be ready to roll.
